Emergency measures have been taken to resolve the problems that thousands of people are experiencing in northern parts of Iran as a result of the heaviest snowstorm in five decades, which has buried some areas under two meters of snow.
Power supplies have been restored in 95 percent of the affected areas, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said on Tuesday, adding that efforts are underway to deliver aid for the people affected by the white storm.
According to officials, heavy snow had left around 500,000 people without electricity and gas.
Troops with Iran's armed forces joined the country's Red Crescent Society and other rescue teams in Mazandaran and neighboring Gilan Province to help with emergency relief efforts.
On the orders of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, an emergency meeting was held at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday to discuss measures to supervise relief assistance to the provinces.
The meeting was attended by a number of ministers.
