The Mehrnavazan Orchestra is tuning up its instruments for concerts, which will be conducted by its 76-year-old founder, Farhad Fakhreddini, at Tehran's Milad Tower on March 4 and 6. Vocalist Salar Aqili will accompany the orchestra during the performances, the organizer and sponsor of the concerts, Naghmeh Hesar Records, announced in a press release on Saturday.

Fakhreddini established Mehrnavazan in October 2011 with the musicians who used to perform in Iran's National Orchestra, a governmental ensemble that was found by Fakhreddini in 1998.

He had to leave the National Orchestra in July 2009 when the Culture Ministry's Music Office began to amplify its control over the ensemble. Consequently, the orchestra shut down.

"After the closing of the orchestra, I have constantly thought about founding another orchestra that would not be dependent upon the Culture Ministry's Music Office," Fakhreddini said in October 2011 after he announced the establishment of the Mehrnavazan Orchestra.

"My dear friends at the Music House and the Music Museum (of Iran) were pursuing the subject. As a result, we were fortunate enough to establish the Mehrnavazan Orchestra, which is a national music group," he added.

Mehrnavazan gave their debut concert at the Milad Hall of the Tehran International Permanent Fairgrounds on October 18, 2011.

The National Orchestra and the Tehran Symphony Orchestra were closed as result of mismanagement in the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance during the two terms of Mahmoud Ahmandinejad's administration.

However, Culture Minister Ali Jannati said last week that his office plans to restore the orchestras in the near future.
