Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to take confidence-building measures if the West also makes efforts to gain Tehran's trust.
"If the Westerners have good faith and are keen to resolve the (nuclear) issue in a friendly way, there is no need to prolong the process," Rafsanjani told a gathering in Tehran on Sunday.
He added that the fact that the White House has stood against the Senate to impose new sanctions on Tehran reflects Iran's significant position in the region and the world.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Rafsanjani said given the fatwa by the Supreme Leader declaring the production, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons as prohibited and the fact that the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency can have easy access to Iran's nuclear facilities, "we have nothing to conceal and everything is transparent".
