The Iranian Navy's 29th fleet of warships, comprised of the Khark logistic helicopter carrier and the Sabalan destroyer, set sail on Tuesday from the southern port city of Bandar Abbas for the Atlantic Ocean on a three-month voyage. It is the Navy's first-ever mission to the Atlantic Ocean.
During a ceremony held before the dispatching of the warships, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the commander of the Iranian Navy, said that the warships are tasked with maintaining the security of Iranian vessels in international waters.
A number of new naval personnel will also receive training during the mission, he said.
