The 14th edition of World University Championship started in the Spanish city of Antequera on July 13, and ended on July 20.The Iranian national men's futsal team has finished fourth place at the 14th edition of World University Championship in Spain, being beaten by Belarus in a penalty shootout.

On Sunday, the Belarusian side downed the Iranians 7-6 on penalty kicks after the third-place play-off at the Technified Indoor Athletics Sports Center in the Spanish city of Antequera, located 385 kilometers (239 miles) south of the capital Madrid, ended in a 3-3 draw.
The Iranian squad suffered a shock defeat against Russia in its semi-final showdown on Saturday evening.
The Iranian futsal players opened the match in a convincing fashion, keeping at bay the Russian team commanded by captain Sergei Abramov.
In the 16th minute, Mehran Alighadr surprised Russia's defense and opened the scoring for Iran. The Russians did not threaten in the remaining minutes of the first half, and both teams went into a breather.
After the break, Russian futsal players returned to action seemingly regained in their composure. They dominated the second half for a couple of minutes, but Iran kept good defenses.
At last, the Russian team got a chance for equalizer and Andrei Zabolonkov put the ball at the back of the net.
In the last three minutes of the match, Iran went all out on attack, but Russia's goalkeeper Dimitri Putilov made several great saves to prevent Iranians from scoring. The match finally ended with the Russians winning 2-1.
