Cheetah on the jersey of Iranian players in World Cup is a victory: Ebtekar

Report by Tehran Times; photos by Faraj Samadi, Islamic Republic News Agency

Masoumeh Ebtekar, the head of Iran's Environmental Protection Organization, said on Monday that Asiatic cheetah designed on Iran national football team players' jerseys carries a powerful message that regardless of the FIFA World Cup results is a win in its own way.

The kit is supposed to bring awareness to the Asiatic cheetahs, which are mainly in Iran and are facing extinction.

Talking at a press conference, Masoumeh Ebtekar said it is the first time that FIFA lets a country's players wear jersey with environment symbol on them.

She said after FIFA gave the green light to the Iranian cheetah logo jerseys, her organization kicked off a campaign to promote environmental awareness across the world with the rising opportunity at the 2014 FIFA World Cup games in Brazil.

The message is simply intended to present Iran to the world as a nature-loving and peace-loving nation, she noted.
