ABRA Gallery is very pleased to present Hessam Abrishami’s second solo show in Westlake Village. Through these forty paintings, Hessam will be expressing his love affairs throughout his life, inviting viewers a glimpse through his past pleasures. One will share in his happy times filled with romance and life changing moments. Some of these paintings were created during his recent visit to Chile, such as “Miss Gonzalez in the Park”, where he became very inspired.
Hessam is an artist, perhaps an amateur in the truest sense of the spoken word but also a master in the delicate and gentle gesture of brush strokes, whom effortlessly creates colorful canvases and uncovers the mystery that lies beneath the power of love. One cannot help but to sense the appreciation of the textures, sun warmed colors and the precious soft moments, reminiscent of the sensations before a siesta.
Thoughts of long vacations, another summer, another country, yesterday’s playmates, are what one ponders when viewing this series of paintings by Hessam. Each piece can tell a story of where and when lovers met, how their journey started, and whether or not it will end. What makes Hessam’s paintings stand apart from others is that he allows viewers to finish the story by inputting their own interpretations, emotions, experiences, and personas into each piece creating a romantic fairytale.
Pose after pose, love affair after love affair, the privileged viewer of each painting can see the emotion and expression of both the man behind the paintings and the story on the canvas. During a recent interview with Voice of America News, Hessam stated “This collection of paintings tells my story about significant times in my life of ‘When I was in Love’."
This series is organized around a sequence of images masterfully put together such as the “My After”. The canvases are interlocked in a continuum, effectively creating a classical frieze commemorating the love and the freedom to express Abrishami’s inner feelings.
