Iranian president who was attending the the 5th international Norouz (Persian New Year) celebrations in Kabul on Thursday said that Norouz is an elegant heritage of ancient time and a good opportunity to lead to political union among the countries.

Presidents of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan attended the event

Rouhani described Norouz as the most ancient tradition of history and wished success for Afghanistan in its upcoming election and expressed hope for the country's development and success.

Rouhani asserted that "Like the virtue of the Spring whose figure is pleasant upon the spring breeze, we should adopt moderation in our conduct as moderation is not a mere political motto restricted to individuals or one country but rooted in culture, literature and history."

Norouz (Persian for 'new day') is the New Year's 1st day in the Iranian Solar calendar at the beginning of spring (March 21). Norouz is also referred to as the Iranian or Persian New Year.

Norouz is the oldest ever festival commemorated in the world, recognized by the UN General Assembly. Since then, authorities of the countries which celebrate Norouz gather annually to celebrate Norouz coming.

This spring the 5th international celebration of Norouz was held in Kabul, Afghanistan with countries recognizing Norouz attending the festivity. A delegation of high ranking Iranian officials attended the festivity.
