Statistics show 352,424 marriages were recorded nationwide during March 21-Sept 22, of which 298,487 and 53,937 pertain to urban and rural areas respectively. Over the same period, 75,623 divorces were recorded nationwide 69,353 and 6,270 of which pertain to urban and rural areas respectively.

Ali Akbar Mahzoun, director general of National Civil Registration Organization's Office for Population Statistics and Information, said the highest and lowest marriage rates were recorded in South Khorasan and Tehran provinces during the period respectively.
He put the average rate of marriage registered per 1,000 people in South Khorasan province at 13.1 percent and Tehran's at 4.7 percent, Iran Daily wrote Thursday.
The official said the highest age of marriage for men, which was 29.6 years, pertained to Tehran province while the figure for Sistan-Baluchestan province was 25.3 years, lowest in the country.
Mahzoun said the highest and lowest ages of marriage for women, which stood at 25.5 and 21.1 years respectively, pertained to Tehran and Sistan- Baluchestan.
He noted that in 77.5 percent of marriages, husbands were older than wives and in 10 percent of marriages, wives were older than husbands and in 12 percent couples were of the same age.
The highest and lowest rates of divorce per 1,000 people pertained to South Khorasan province with 2.9 percent and Sistan-Baluchestan province with 0.4 percent.
