Iran has attained self-sufficiency in manufacturing centrifuges used for making vaccines, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Friday. Salehi made the remarks on the sidelines of the 18th Annual Asian Science Park Association (ASPA) Conference in Shiraz, IRIB news reported.

The AEOI has already provided 16,000-80,000 rounds per minute (RPM) centrifuges to the Razi Medical Center and the Pasteur Institute, he stated.

"AEOI experts have mastered the advanced technology required to manufacture these centrifuges, particularly the 80,000 RPM ones," Salehi said.

Previously, Iran used to spend 60 billion rials (about $2 million) to import human and animal vaccines produced through the use of such centrifuges because the manufacturers would not sell the high RPM centrifuges to Iran, he added.

The 18th Annual ASPA Conference opened in Shiraz on October 15 and closes later today (October 18).

The host organization, the Fars Science and Technology Park, is one of the first science and technology parks in Iran and West Asia and has participated in ASPA activities since 2011.
