Iran finishes 4th in 2014 Asian Para Games

INCHEON, South Korea - Iran came fourth in the 2nd edition of the Asian Para Games held in Incheon, South Korea.

A total of 4,500 athletes competed in 23 sports. The 2nd Asian Para Games opened on October 18 and closed on October 24 following 6 days of competition.

Iran finished in fourth place winning 120 medals, including 37 gold, 52 silver and 31 bronze medals. Iran was just one gold medal short of third place Japan whose silver and bronze medals were less than Persians.

China once again overwhelmed the games, earning 174 gold medals and 317 medals in total. The hosts South Korea finished second with 211 medals, including 72 gold, 62 silver and 77 bronze medals. Japan came in third with 143 medals, including 38 gold, 49 silver and 56 bronze medals.

Iranian athletes showed a massive performance in the last two days of the competitions winning a total of 15 gold medals.

Iran sitting volleyball team beat China in final in straight sets (25-12, 25-20, 29-27). Iran goalball team thrashed China 10-0 in final to win another gold medal.

Iran's 7-a-side football team humiliated Japan 5-0 in the final match on Thursday.

Iran's Men's Judo Team also finished in the first place earning another gold on Thursday. The Iranian outfit beat South Korea 3-2.

IPC powerlifting world record holder Siamand Rahman improved his personal record for 7 kilograms. The super heavyweight lifter claimed the gold medal lifting 290kg.

This is the second successive time that Iran finished 4th in Asian Para Games. The Persians were also ranked 4th in 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou with 27 gold, 24 silver and 29 bronze medals.

2018 Asian Para Games will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
