Marivon MP Omid Karimian has spoken out against the termination of 300 members of the Kurdistan Medical Sciences University staff, calling the move even more concerning in view of the province's high rate of unemployment.
Kord Press reports that on Sunday October 26, Karimian gave an oral warning to the minister health in parliament saying: "Such rigid and dogmatic approaches by the Selection Committee of the Kurdistan Medical Sciences University is not becoming in an administration that has dubbed itself the government of hope and wisdom and termination of 300 staff members of the university with the high rate of unemployment in the province and the shortage of manpower in health care is highly concerning."
Karimian accused the Selection Committee of using arbitrary criteria in their evaluation of employees.
"The question is when is this problem going to be resolved and the heavy shadow of the Selection Committee lifted from the back of our young," he said.
Kurdistan has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the country.
University selection committees in Iran usually check the background of applicants and employees for possible political links that might appeal anti-establishment.
