On Saturday night, a large group of students gathered at Tehran University Dorm to protest their increased expenses, the lack of sufficient dorm spots, restrictions on hours, blackouts at night, low-quality internet services and their mistreatment by university security personnel.
The sit-in began at around 8 PM with 50 students in the main square of the dorm campus demanding that university officials show up to hear their demands.
Two officials did appear among the students, but by this time the number of students had reached 400. The students were not reassured by the officials' responses and called for the head of the university to address the "pitiful situation of the dorm and the exorbitant prices".
They then began marching around the campus to draw more support from the student body.
The student numbers finally reached about 800, and they were told that Dr. Khezri, General Manager of Public Relations, and a representative of the university president would arrive to hear them out.
The students then began writing out their demands, which were officially handed over to Kr. Khezri, who promised to follow up on them and provide a report within a week.
