After hearing the explanations by Zarif, who is acting as Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, the MPs were convinced.

Zarif said the government and the negotiating team have not and will not pursue "political" and "factional" goals in the nuclear talks.

He stated that "factionalizing" the foreign policy will lead to its defeat, saying pursuing "political and factional" goals at the expense of the national interests is an "unforgivable sin".

He stated that Iran's nuclear program has been designed based on Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei's fatwa.

The Iranian team defends the people's interests and considers the country's superior objectives, Zarif added.

The Iranian foreign minister also stated that nuclear talks have presented an "interactive, stable and powerful" image of Iran and prevented the tightening of sanctions against the country.

Since the signing of the Geneva deal the Iranian Foreign Ministry has been able to counter the "hostile" commotions created against the country and played a role in promoting its security and power, Zarif said.

On November 24, 2013, Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany) signed an interim nuclear deal in Geneva according to which some sanctions against Iran were eased and instead Iran agreed to slow down its nuclear activities.

Iran and the six major powers failed to meet a November 24 deadline to strike a final nuclear pact and agreed to extend the talks until July 1, 2015.

Commenting on the sanctions, Zarif stated that the "cruel" sanctions have been imposed against the country with the purpose of undermining Iran's scientific and economic power.

He added that the "resistance economy" has protected the country from outside pressure and fluctuations in the international scene.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the Zionist regime of Israel has failed in its "evil" purposes against Iran, Islam and the Mideast region.
