Israel has not commented on the January 18 strike that killed Islamic Revolutionary Guards Force (IRGC) General Mohammad Allahdadi and several members of the Lebanese Islamic group Hezbollah.

But both Iran and Hezbollah have blamed Israel for the attack.

Deputy Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying that Iran told Americans that Israel crossed Iran's "red lines" by killing Allahdadi.

He said the message was sent to the U.S. via diplomatic channels.

Abdollahian told IRNA the Iranians "told the Americans that the leaders of the Zionist regime (eds: Israel) should await the consequences of their action."

Several commanders of the IRGC have vowed revenge for the killing.
