The group of 74 tourists was welcomed by the Deputy Head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Morteza Rahmani-Movahhed and a group of journalists at Tehran’s railway station.

The train’s passengers are from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the US, Austria and Turkey. They will visit a number of historical and cultural sites in Tehran before leaving for their home countries on Sunday.

It passed through the provinces of Zanjan, Fars, Yazd and Isfahan, where the passengers got the opportunity to visit various tourist attractions in all major provicial cities.

The journey is part of a tour organized in cooperation with Turkish, Hungarian and Iranian travel agencies.

This is the train’s second trip to Iran. Its previous visit to the country was the first such trip ever made to Iran by a luxury international train.

The Golden Eagle Danube Express followed The Thousand and One Nights train last April, taking 72 foreign tourists to Iran.

The train was modeled around the 19th century Orient Express, and visited Iran as part of the Jewels of Persia connecting Hungary to Iran.

Iran is considered to be one of the top tourist destinations in the Middle East, due to its rich history and culture, high climate variety and vibrant society.

Iran also boasts nearly 20 sites registered on UNESCO’s world heritage list, including the Naqsh-e Jahan Square, Bisotoun, Pasargadae, Persepolis, Shoushtar historical hydraulic system and Tabriz historic bazaar complex.
