TEHRAN - In a ceremony on Sunday Iran unveiled a long-range land-to-land cruise missile called Soumar. The cruise missile is designed and manufactured by Iranian experts.
Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan said Soumar "enjoys various features in terms of range and pinpoint accuracy compared with previous products."
Such achievements are "considered as important steps toward boosting the country's defense and deterrence power," Dehqan noted.
He said Iran plans to promote the range, precision, and power of such type of missiles in the upgraded versions which will be unveiled in the next Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2015-March 20, 2016).
Dehqan also announced the mass delivery of two other long-range ballistic missiles of Qadr and Qiam to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Iran has made significant progresses in defense industry in recent years.
Tehran has repeatedly said that its defense doctrine is only based on deterrence and its military prowess poses no threat to any country.
Earlier on Saturday, Khatam Al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Commander Farzad Esmaili said Iran would unveil the Talaash-3 (Endeavor-3) system on April 18 on the occasion of the National Army Day.
