Farhang Hosts Its Largest Nowruz Extravaganza To Date
LOS ANGELES, May 14, 2015 -- With a record breaking 10,000 plus visitors at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Sunday, March 22, 2015, Farhang Foundation's 7th Annual Nowruz (The Iranian New Year) Celebration in collaboration with LACMA was the Foundation's largest Nowruz celebration since inception.
Starting in 2009, Farhang Foundation has hosted a public celebration of the Iranian New Year at LACMA, attracting visitors from diverse ethnic backgrounds including the sizable Iranian American community in Los Angeles. Sponsored by Art of the Middle East: Contemporary, Farhang's annual celebration offers museum visitors a dynamic program rich in music, color, and dance, suitable for the entire family.
"Marking the first day of Spring and the renewal of nature, Nowruz is a celebration of life and hope. It renews the bonds of family and friendship and reinvigorates the soul," said Hormoz Ameri, Farhang Foundation Trustee and Chair of the Nowruz Committee. "This year's whopping attendance record is a reflection of the universal appeal of Nowruz, an ancient non-denominational celebration cherished by millions of people around the world, including Iranians."

Similar to Farhang's past Nowruz events, this year's celebration featured a traditional Haft-Sīn display, Saaz-O-Dohol musicians and traditionally garbed dancers entertaining throughout the day. The delightful 2nd Annual Costume Parade was a feast for the eyes, offering viewers a spectacular exhibition of costumes and colors. A first ever Backgammon Tournament was a welcomed new addition to the program lineup. One of the many highlights of the day included the world premiere of Zohreh Jooya's The Sounds of a Persian Spring, a glorious musical journey through Iran, featuring the Djanbazian Dance Academy Dancers whose interpretive dances represented all regions of Iran and Iranian music. The live outdoor concert by the critically acclaimed rock band KIOSK, was Farhang's largest and most successful concert to date and was attended by a record-breaking crowd, which was a fantastic way to conclude the festivities of the day!
The expansive scale and popularity of this year's Nowruz celebration at LACMA has been featured in Los Angeles Magazine, LATimes.com, KCRW, KPCC, KPFK and received TV press coverage courtesy of NBC and ABC news.

Farhang's Nowruz celebration at LACMA was one of two Nowruz events hosted by the Foundation. On Saturday, March 14, 2015, Farhang welcomed its friends and supporters in Orange County to the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo for a full day of Nowruz celebrations. An estimated 700 attendees celebrated the forthcoming new year with musicians and dancers, a lovely Haft-Sīn display, a Persian tea ceremony, and activities for children courtesy of the Khayam Persian School Foundation. The crowd was brought to its feet by the U.S. debut of Zohreh Jooya's The Sounds of a Persian Spring. View photos from Farhang's Orange County Nowruz celebrations here!
