Iran's Persepolis lost to Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal 3-0 in the AFC Champions League's round of 8. Suffered from a late defeat to Persepolis in Tehran, Al-Hilal won the Iranian club team 3-0 Tuesday night in Riyadh's King Fahad Stadium.

It was a tough second-leg encounter for Persepolis as the Iranian team lost to Al-Hilal in Riyadh.

Backed by over 100,000 fans, Persepolis beat the visiting Al-Hilal 1-0 in the first leg of round of 16 on May 19, as Brazilian defender Digao opened his own net, tapping in Persepolis striker Mehdi Taremi's left cross from the edge of the woodwork two minutes into stoppage time of the second half.

The loss means a bitter farewell to AFC Champion League. Persepolis was unfortunate not to have left AFC Champion League with a better result but they were left to blame themselves for not taking advantage of the opportunities that came their way. The team manager Branko Ivankovic, however, hailed his men in their Tuesday match and described their performance as 'heroic.'

Naft, the other Tehran-based team and its Saudi rival Al-Ahli will meet in their second-leg clash in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, May 27, to determine who will advance to the next round.
