'Different Strokes of Tehran' has been curated by Italian art expert Giancarlo Petrucci and will run until December 7 in the Iranian capital.
Petrucci has held similar events in Malaysia, the US and Afghanistan so far, gathering international street artists from all over the world to share some of the best graffiti artworks with the ordinary, art-loving audience.
The 41-year-old believes organizing such events provides an opportunity to take art out to the open, where it is no longer something meant only for the rich.
Street art is visual art created in public locations and executed outside of the context of traditional art venues. It became popular during the graffiti art boom of the early 1980s, and has been used by artists to communicate with the public without the perceived confines of the formal art world.
