Iran's Superman Behdad Salimi out of World Weightlifting Championship

Iran's super heavyweight Behdad Salimi has a torn ACL and missed the 2015 World Weightlifting Championship. Salimi was helped off the field after suffering a serious knee injury which occurred in the training on Monday.

"He had an MRI to confirm the extent of the injury. Salimi has a torn ACL and should undergo surgery," Iran Weightlifting Federation's doctor Davoud Bagheri.

The 2015 IWF World Weightlifting Championships will be held in Houston, Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center from November 20 to 28.

"My doctor said I should have surgery sine I've torn ACL. I will return to the field after four months. I want to win the gold in the 2016 Olympic Games," Behdad Salimi said.

Saeid Mohammadpour has already missed the competition with an elbow injury.

An estimated 600 competitors from over 188 affiliated National Federations from all five Olympic continents are expected to participate in this International Olympic Committee sanctioned qualifying event for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympic Games.
