PAYVAND.com - "Chaharshanbeh-Souri," a collection of Persian pieces for choir and orchestra composed by Samin Baghcheban (1925-2008), was released in Tehran. The release coincided with the 8-year anniversary of the composer's death in exile.
"Chaharshabeh Souri" is the ancient Persian fire-jumping festival. It is also the title piece of the album and the day on which Baghcheban died. It is the second volume of his 1978-album "Rangin-Kamun" (Rainbow), composed for children and recorded by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Christian David.

"Chaharshanbeh Souri" was released after an eight-year effort by the composer's son, Kaveh. In an interview with BBC Persian TV, Kaveh Baghcheban described how he recorded the compilation. With no budget to record with a full choir and orchestra, he was forced to record the parts separately. They were then mixed together to create the final piece. "I had a great motivation to make this work a reality because this album shows my father's love for his homeland." Kaveh stated in the interview.
