Rio 2016 Olympics: Iran's Saeid Abdevali wins bronze in men's Greco-Roman wrestling

Iranian wrestler Saeid Morad Abdevali has won a bronze medal in the men's Greco-Roman 75-kilogram category after defeating Hungary's Peter Bacsi on August 14, 2016, during the wrestling event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Carioca Arena 2 in Rio de Janeiro.

Abdevali won the match against the Hungarian champion 5-2 after beating Serbian athlete Viktor Nemes to reach the third-place playoff at the Carioca Arena 2 in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.

The first day of the Rio game's wrestling events did not start out quite well for Iran as multiple world champion Hamid Souryan lost 5-4 to Japanese wrestler Shinobu Ota in the game's opening set, despite an initial 4-0 lead.

After defeating Souryan in the 59-kilogram competition, Shinobu Ota won 6-0 against Kazakhstan's Almat Kebispayev. Souryan later lost his chance for a bronze after being downed by technical superiority despite a 7-0-lead against Kebispayev. Suoryan has six world titles plus a gold medal from the London Olympic Games in 2012.
