Persian Poetry Night at Anahita Gallery
‘My aim is to liberate far eastern cultures from their negative and controversial reputation and to awaken again the mesmerisation for the oriental’, says Sadighi.
Anahita Sadighi, born in Teheran and raised in Berlin, is at 27 the youngest Berlin art dealer (Weltkunst). ‘Being a woman is still a handicap. Iranian society is more paradoxical than the local one, but accepting this and learning to see it as an
opportunity is the great art’, she explains. She sees it as a privilege to run a gallery
and works with a network of girlfriends. The name Sadighi could be familiar for
those who know Berlin art galleries. Anahita - Arts of Asia continues the tradition
of another Berlin based gallery, Neiriz - Non-European Art, which was founded
in 1980 by Anahita’s father, art collector and painter Hamid Sadighi.
Anahita’s vision is to turn the gallery into a Berlin cultural institution. The goal is to combine old-school art dealing with the possibilities of a new generation and to raise public awareness for Asian Art. ‘I believe the 21st century belongs to Asia. Europe and America have had their time in the spotlight, and now Asia is due a renaissance’, says Anahita Sadighi.
