Iranian Minister of Communications Mahmoud Vaezi says the government is looking into providing high-speed internet service to the country's rural areas.

Vaezi added that "if the government is providing services electronically, shopping is done electronically, university entrance exams are being done electronically, then internet service should be provided all across the country."

He added that 18,000 thousand villages will receive high-speed internet this year.

Vaezi said the administration is trying to eliminate the economic divide between regions in Iran.

He added that rural residents will be able to use the internet to market their various products.

He added that his ministry has coordinated with the Ministry of Health to provide certain medical services electronically.
