"Cyrus's intelligence, track record, and proven
commitment to Washington State set him apart. I am pleased to endorse and
support his campaign for Lieutenant Governor." - President Obama
OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON - Cyrus Habib, a Washington State Senator, renowned law professor, and Rhodes Scholar, is poised to become the first American of Iranian descent to be elected to Lieutenant Governor.
Cyrus, fully blind since the age of eight and three-time cancer survivor, is currently the highest ranking Iranian American in government. His victory in the Washington State campaign for Lieutenant Governor would mark another significant achievement for the Iranian American community.
Recently, President Obama endorsed Senator Habib, saying "Cyrus's intelligvence, track record, and proven committment to Washington State set him apart."
Cyrus's successful campaign for Lieutenant Governor would serve not only as a victory for the Iranian American community, but also as a rejection of the hate mongering, bigotry, and calls for exclusion based on ancestry seen in our nation's political discourse.
