U.S. prosecutors say a federal jury has found an Iranian man with U.S. citizenship guilty of trying to buy surface-to-air missiles to smuggle into Iran. The Justice Department said the Manhattan jury convicted Reza Olangian on four counts, including conspiring to acquire and transfer antiaircraft missiles.

Reza Olangian's Indictment

Olangian, who holds both Iranian and U.S. citizenship, could face up to 25 years in prison on the charges.

He was arrested in Estonia in 2012 and later extradited to the United States in a sting operation.

Prosecutors said Olangian met in Ukraine with a U.S. informant, telling him of his plans to smuggle missiles and other parts into Iran.

U.S. law forbids the transfers of such technology.

Five years earlier, he had tried to buy and smuggle about 100 missiles to Iran.

Olangian's lawyer said an appeal was planned.
