Los Angeles, August 31, 2016 - Immerse yourself in Los Angeles' most intriguing cinema scene at the 8th Annual Farhang Foundation Short Film Festival at LACMA on September 24th.  More than 180 films from around the world have been submitted-the most ever for this festival. The six finalist films will be screened and three winners will be announced, receiving top prizes of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000. Over the festival's history, the Farhang Foundation has granted over $120,000 in cash prizes.

Look for red carpet arrivals with established and emerging filmmakers, artists and influencers in the Iranian community and beyond. Vying for top honors, the six finalists includeThe Cunning Tailor (Director Rashin Kheiriyeh),  Fan (Director Ali Delkari), From the Eastern Lands (Director: Sarah Tabibzadeh), The Last Tar (Director: Yashin Nahani),  Nowruz (Director: Mohammad Hadi Khosrokiani), and A Visual Journey Through Iran: Sistan & Baluchistan (Director: Ebrahim Mirmalek).

The festival is hosted by the hilarious standup comedian K-von, himself a former winner of the festival. K-von received rave reviews on NBC's "Last Comic Standing," and has appeared on Showtime, "Disaster Date, and "Good Morning America."

"Each year I am impressed with the number of quality films that are submitted to the festival from around the world," says Mark Amin, Farhang Foundation Trustee and Chair of the Film Festival Committee. "As one of the jurors, I always find it to be a daunting task to select only six films. My hat goes off to all the talented participants of this year's festival, specifically the top six finalists."

This year's world-class film jury includes Iranian box office superstar Bahram Radan. Legendary filmmaker Rakshan Banietemad was the first woman recipient of the Best Director award at Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, and has screened her films at highly prestigious and prominent festivals and TV channels such as IDFA, Sundance Film Festival and ARTE. Mark Amin is the CEO of Sobini Films, a film production and financing company. Amin's most recent credits include Sony Picture Classics' Miles Ahead starring Don Cheadle and Ewan McGregor and IFC's Good Kill starring Ethan Hawke. In addition to his work at Sobini, Amin served as Vice Chairman of Lionsgate Entertainment for nine years. Renowned film scholar Dr. Jamsheed Akrami has published extensively, presented numerous lectures, curated film series, and produced a number of films. He is a film professor at William Paterson University. Sepideh Farsi is an award-winning Iranian film director and writer. She is the director of The House Under WaterRed Rose, andDespo, Labros, Spyridoula & Papandreou, among other films.

This red-carpet event is followed by an exclusive cocktail reception in honor of the filmmakers, featuring delectable appetizers prepared by Patina Restaurant Group, the culinary innovators behind LACMA's Ray's and Stark Bar, and C+M (Coffee and Milk).

Anyone can participate in the festival with no entry fee required. The films are all subtitled in English and can be screened by the public at FarhangFilmFest.org.Tickets for the film festival and after-party festivities are $35 for LACMA members and $45 for the general public. Attendees are also encouraged to come early and view the display, "
Rostam in Wonderland - Series: Rostam in Wonderland Edition: 1/3 + 2 artist's proofs," which was the 2013 Festival Winner. It's in the Ahmanson Building, in the Islamic Art Collection. Tickets to the museum must be purchased separately.

The Evening's Timeline:
6:00 p.m. - Red carpet arrivals
6:45 p.m. - Film program begins at the Bing Theater, LACMA
8:30 p.m. - Exclusive reception, featuring  must-see DJ Arin, the resident deejay on Tapesh TV, and of Club Tapesh, specialty cocktails and catering by Patina at Los Angeles Times Central Court.
