The 9th edition of the Fajr International Festival of Visual Arts opened at Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art on Sunday. The ceremony started with honoring those active in promoting the festival through the past year including news agencies, publications, and cultural offices.
Mehr News Agency, which had an active role in covering the news of the festival,
was also among the honorees at the opening ceremony.
A collection of 102 works mostly featuring installations and art projects are on display in the competition section, the organizers have announced.
Belgian cartoonist Luc Descheemaeker, Brazilian cartoonist Silvano Mello, and
American photographer and artist Eric Tomberlin are the foreign artists
competing in the festival this year.
This edition of the festival has been dedicated to a review of artworks from Spain and Brazil. An exhibition of artworks from the two countries is set up at the festival running until February 18.
The Niavaran Cultural Center is hosting the international section and exhibition
of works by prominent Iranian visual artists.
A seminar entitled "Reading Art" has also been arranged on the sidelines, and the film screening section has been removed from the festival this year.
