Iranian sportsmen and sportswomen have managed to clinch six more medals, raising the country's total medal count at the 23rd edition of Summer Deaflympics in Turkey to 26.
The Iranian men's national kumite team lost to the Ukrainian squad in the
final contest at Ataturk Sports Hall in Turkey's northern and major Black Sea
port city of Samsun, and received the silver medal.
Iran women's kata team also finished second, and scooped silver.
Furthermore, Iranian freestyle wrestler Mehdi Bakhshi overcame Kazakhstan's Gabit Yeszhanov 14-4 in the bronze medal bout of the 61-kilogram weight class.
Hossein Derikvand drew 6-6 in the final contest of the 70-kilogram weight category, and collected the silver medal.
Later in the tournament, Iranian freestyle wrestler Mohsen Manouchehrtelouri
defeated Zakir Turdiev from Kyrgyzstan 4-0, and got a bronze medal in the
86-kilogram weight category.
Alireza Rayeji picked up another bronze medal for the Iranian freestyle wrestling team in the 125-kilogram division.
The 2017 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the 23rd edition of Summer Deaflympics, opened in Samsun, Turkey, on July 18 and will finish on July 30, 2017. A total of 3,148 athletes from 97 countries are competing in 21 sports at the international multi-sport event.
Dozens of Iranian athletes are in action across 13 sports. They are vying for top honors in athletics, beach volleyball, bowling, football, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.
Russia is on the top of the medal count table with 145 medals (65 gold, 44 silvers and 36 bronzes).
Ukraine has claimed the second spot with 75 medals (18 gold, 28 silvers, 29
bronzes), while South Korea is on the third with a total of 27 medals (10 gold,
9 silvers and 8 bronzes).
China, Turkey, Venezuela, the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan and Belarus have earned the 4th to 10th places respectively.
Iran has collected three gold, eight silver and fifteen bronze medals.
