Kia Hamadanchy - Candidate for U.S. Congress (D-CA/45th)
The son of small business owners and immigrants from Iran, Kia Hamadanchy was born and raised in Irvine, California. After graduating from High School, he attended University of Michigan for both his undergraduate and law degrees. After law school, Hamadanchy moved to Washington, D.C. to serve as legal counsel for the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Under Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA), Hamadanchy worked to expose exploitation of students by the for-profit college industry and helped to crack down on their fraudulent practices. Following Senator Harkin's retirement, he worked in the office of Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Hamadanchy is running for California's 45th Congressional District. If successful, he will become the first American of Iranian descent to be elected to Congress. Click here to read PAAIA's interview with Hamadanchy.
"IAPAC's endorsement of my candidacy for California's 45th Congressional District, which has the second largest Iranian American constituency in the country, is a tremendous honor," said Hamadanchy. "It is a very humbling experience for me to have the connection to and support of the Iranian American community."
Amir Farokhi - Atlanta City Council (District 2)
Born and raised in Atlanta, Amir Farokhi takes pride in understanding the needs and concerns of the city's diverse population. After graduating from college, Farokhi lived abroad in Taiwan and traveled extensively, gathering important lessons that he believes will help turn Atlanta into a livable world-class city that embraces its diversity, history, and Southern roots. He has spent his career solving problems. From leading local and national social enterprises to helping companies make an impact beyond profits, Amir has built a reputation as a thoughtful, pragmatic leader who relies upon coalition-building and collaboration to get things done. Farokhi, a graduate of Duke University School of Law, is running to represent District 2 on the Atlanta City Council. Click here to read PAAIA's interview with Farokhi.
