The U.S. weightlifting men's and women's teams are waiting for visas to participate in the third edition of the International Fajr Cup. The competition has been scheduled to take place in the city of Ahvaz in Iran's south west from March 6 to 11.

Despite Iran having been blacklisted by Trump, the U.S. is planning to send a women's delegation to Iran, as well as a men's team to compete in the Fajr Cup, Phil Andrews, chief executive officer of USA Weightlifting, said.
At the World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, California in early December, head of Iran Weightlifting Federation Ali Moradi invited the U.S. to compete in the Fajr Cup, a men's invitation competition, and has also asked them to send a women's team.
The Americans have accepted on both counts, and will send female lifters, coaches and technical officials.
"At this point, subject to visas, we plan to attend the Fajr Cup with a small men's and women's delegation," Andrews told in an interview with Tehran Times.
"The Women's delegation will work in a closed female environment with the Iran women to promote future participation and strengthening of the Iran women's team," he added.
There will be no competition, only a camp at this stage. It is about education at this stage, Andrews confirmed.
