Iran says Donald Trump's statement that Iran wants talks with Washington is "false and an impossibility". On January 6, the U.S. president told reporters that "Iran is doing very poorly. Once I took the horrible Iran nuclear deal off, it has had a massive effect in Iran; they are pulling back troops all over the place. They are not doing well. They want to talk."
Iran foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi on Monday told reporters that
Trumps' statement is "The repetition of the same avarice and ambitions of
medieval powers, which had an expiration date".
Ghasemi added that "Trump simply utters his false and impossible hopes, which have nothing to do with existing realities".
Iran "is familiar with U.S. pressures and sanctions policies for decades" and "Iran will never bow to U.S. cruel pressures", Ghasemi retorted.
In 2018 Trump offered unconditional talks with Iran, but Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei announced that negotiations with Washington are forbidden.
