(Tehran, August 28, 1999) - Millennium International Business Center
(MIBC) was established in August 1999 as the first world-class
business center in Iran. A group of returning Iranian expatriates
recognized that Iran in many ways lacks the infrastructure needed to
draw in the capital it wants from overseas investors. They created
MIBC to address these problems.
Faced with economic recession, the Islamic Republic of Iran is opening
up its economy and allowing increased involvement by the private
sector and foreign investors. Foreign investors are responding. This
June, the first high level British trade delegation since the 1979
Revolution arrived in Iran. The high level British Trade and
Investment Mission that visited Iran in June 1999 was an unqualified
success, boasts Dermot Graham, Executive Director of the International
Trade and Investment Mission, a UK-based group that organized the
trade delegation. Without exception the thirty plus delegates, all
very senior representatives of their companies, were highly
complimentary of the Mission arrangements, continued Graham.
But after twenty years of relative isolation, Iran is complex and
alien to foreigners. An interested investor finds the road to Iran
full of hurdles. It is very difficult for a potential investor to
decipher through the bureaucratic maze. Many complain that their
limited time in Iran is inefficient and that they feel lost and
disorganized after their arrival. The role that Millennium
International Business Center and its sister company Atieh Bahar
Consulting played was extremely important [to the success of the
British trade mission] and I have no hesitation in recommending their
services, adds Graham. The directors and staff showed dedication and
the utmost professionalism in their dealings both with my company and
each delegate.
The dedication of MIBC's directors goes beyond professionalism. "We
wanted to do more than just start a new business in Iran," says Babak
Namazi, one of MIBC's founders. "We wanted to do something that would
help our country. Iran needs foreign investment, but the services
that the investors need are just not there, continues Namazi, a
US-trained attorney specializing in international corporate law who
returned to Iran last year.
