Sadaf Khadem came from the mountains and underground gyms of Tehran to Royan, a seaside town in south-west France, so that she could have the freedom to fight. She came alone. Iranian filmmaker Reza Surani is making the documentary "Lift-up" about the life story of Pupak Basami, who is the first woman from post-revolution Iran to compete in an international weightlifting tournament. Women's Boxing Banned In Iran's Khuzestan Province

Khuzestan has become Iran's first province to officially ban women's boxing. "Any activity in women's boxing is prohibited in the province," the head of Khuzestan's boxing board, Hamid Zanganehmanesh, said on May 31, according to the semiofficial ISNA news agency. Referring to a recent letter from the president of the Iranian boxing federation, Zanganehmanesh said all women's boxing activities were prohibited in Khuzestan, including coaching, training, and theory classes. 6/2/20

Surf sensitively: the modest wetsuit inspired by Iran's women surfers

The wetsuit is the result of a six-year design project between Finisterre and product designers at Falmouth and Plymouth Universities, to create something that was functional and safe to surf in, as well as culturally sensitive. It began after Britton's trips to Iran, first in 2010 and then again in 2013, to film a documentary about surfing in the country.
